Popular Science: Should You Turn Off Your Router?

Nowadays, it is the era of universal Internet access. As long as there is WiFi, one can go online anytime and anywhere. Should the router be turned off? 80% of people made mistakes. No wonder the signal is getting worse and worse! WiFi is available in every household and has become a necessity in life. However, sometimes when watching TV, I often feel that the network is very slow. I always thought it was because the router was broken, but I didn't know it was due to improper use! If it weren't for the reminder from a professional, even a 100-megabit network would be "at a snail's pace"!

Many people believe that the routers they have installed at home have never been turned off since they were turned on, always remaining on. In fact, routers need to be turned off every day. Why is the network slow? The principle is quite simple. If any machine is used for a long time without rest, the internal parts will definitely be constantly consumed. This will cause the internal parts to overheat, resulting in a slower network speed.

  • Constantly keeping the router on leads to device aging: As the router is always in a working state without ever stopping, the internal components are also prone to gradual aging. Even a 100-megabit optical fiber may "not work", which can easily cause various minor problems such as network delay signals. If you are not careful, the network card will be damaged.

  • The router is often on, resulting in excessive internal cache: The network also has cache. According to the mobile master, the working principle of the router is to constantly receive and transmit signals, and these caches are all accumulated from some redundant signals.

So when we turn off the router, it can eliminate these caches by itself. If the router is kept on all the time, the caches will accumulate more and more, which will cause the network speed to become slower and slower. If the router at home is experiencing a particularly sluggish network, don't worry too much. You can try turning it off, taking a break for a while, and then turning it on again. If it's still very laggy, then just unplug it and let it sit for a day or two before using it again.

During this period, the router can clear its internal cache. After "taking a break", it should be much smoother to use. It turns out that the router needs to be turned off every day. No wonder the Internet speed at home is always so poor. Maybe it's because this small detail wasn't done well.
