Series Gigabit Routers Guide

In enterprise or large office environments, a single router often fails to meet the complex network requirements. At this point, by connecting two gigabit enterprise-level routers in series, not only can the network coverage be effectively expanded, but also the stability and transmission speed of the network can be enhanced.

Preparations before connection

  • 1.1 Choose the appropriate router
To ensure the best connection effect, it is recommended to choose a gigabit enterprise-level router of the same brand that supports bridging mode or wireless relay function. For instance, many mainstream brands such as Huawei, TP-Link, and Xinghengxun have launched gigabit enterprise-level routers that support such functions, which can provide stable signals and high-speed data transmission.

  • 1.2 Check the network environment
Before starting the series connection, make sure that the main router is properly connected to the Internet and the network environment is stable. In addition, check the physical distance and obstacles between the two routers to minimize signal interference as much as possible.

Settings of the main router
  • 2.1 Log in to the main router management interface
Use a browser to enter the administrative address of the main router (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), and log in with the administrator account and password.

  • 2.2 Configure the main router
Set the IP address: Ensure that the IP address of the main router is in an appropriate network segment, such as 192.168.1.1, and enable the DHCP function to automatically assign IP addresses to devices within the coverage area of the main router.
Wireless Settings: In the wireless Settings, enable the wireless network, set an easily identifiable SSID (Wireless Network Name) and a secure password.

Settings of the secondary router
  • 3.1 Connect the secondary router
Connect the WAN port of the secondary router to the LAN port of the main router via an Ethernet cable. If the wireless relay function is used, ensure that the secondary router is within the signal coverage range of the main router.

  • 3.2 Log in to the secondary router management interface
Also use a browser to enter the management address of the secondary router and log in to the management interface.

  • 3.3 Configure the secondary router
Disable the DHCP function: In the management interface of the secondary router, disable the DHCP server function to prevent IP address overcharging.
Set bridge mode or Wireless relay: In the wireless Settings, select the “Bridge Mode” or “Wireless Relay” function. If the bridge mode is used, the SSID and password of the main router need to be entered so that the secondary router can connect to the main router.
Adjust wireless Settings: Set the wireless network name and password of the secondary router. It is recommended to keep them consistent with those of the main router to ensure seamless roaming between the two routers.

Optimize network Settings
  • 4.1 Adjust the signal channel

To avoid signal interference, it is recommended to set the wireless signal channels of the main and secondary routers to different channels. For example, the main router is set to Channel 6 and the secondary router is set to Channel 11.

  • 4.2 Test network connection

After completing the Settings, test the network connection and speed through the device connected to the secondary router to ensure a stable network and that the transmission speed meets expectations.

Common Problems and Solutions
  • 5.1 Unable to connect to the secondary router

Check the connection: Ensure that the WAN port of the secondary router is correctly connected to the LAN port of the main router.

Check the IP address: Ensure that the IP address of the secondary router is in the same network segment as that of the primary router.

  • 5.2 Insufficient signal coverage

Adjust the position: Place the secondary router at the edge of the main router’s signal coverage to avoid signal overlap or incomplete coverage.

Replace the equipment: If the signal coverage is still not satisfactory, you can consider replacing it with a gigabit enterprise-level 4G router that supports higher power.

  • 5.3 Slow network speed

Check the quality of the network cable: Ensure that the network cables connecting the two routers are of good quality and undamaged.

Update firmware: Regularly check the firmware updates of the router to ensure that the device is running on the latest version.

By following the above steps, you can easily connect two gigabit enterprise-level routers in series. Whether it is a wired connection or a wireless relay, it can effectively expand the network coverage and improve network performance. In an enterprise office environment, the reasonable configuration of two routers in series not only meets the connection requirements of more devices but also ensures the stability and security of the network.
